About Alloy River
Alloy River builds agentic applied AI for finance and accounting. Accounting today is fragmented, manual, and reactive. We believe it should be intelligent, structured, and operationally decisive. Our mission is to transform finance from a slow, labor-intensive, reporting function into a real-time, strategic engine for profit and control.
We re-architected the general ledger from first principles, and layered automation, workflow orchestration, and applied AI directly into its core. Instead of accountants moving data between tools and managing checklists, our system produces outcomes, surfaces exceptions, and compounds leverage over time. This is not incremental improvement. It is a ground-up redesign of financial infrastructure for an AI-native world.
We raised over $30m to date from Portage Ventures, Electric Capital, Elad Gil, and angels like Tobi Lütke, Balaji Srinivasan, and many more. We’re scaling what we do with the best builders, operators, and craftspeople in the world.
Role Overview
We have a clear mandate to close multiple acquisitions in 2026, and we are building the team to do it. This is a senior, strategy-facing role for someone who knows how to find the right companies, build genuine relationships with their founders, and get deals across the line. You will report directly to the CEO and own the front end of our M&A process - from market strategy and target identification through to signed term sheets.
What You'll Work On
Market strategy and origination
Expand our existing acquisition strategy within the professional services sector - which types of firms we want, why, and where to find them.
Work with the Manager, Corporate Development to build and maintain a pipeline of acquisition targets through direct outreach, relationship development, industry events, and intermediary networks.
Stay close to the market - tracking deal activity, competitive dynamics, and where opportunities are emerging before others see them.
Founder and counterparty relationships
Develop genuine, long-term relationships with founders, business owners, operators, and advisors across North America.
Represent Alloy River with the credibility and judgment that earns trust from counterparties - particularly owners who are considering the future of businesses they have spent years building.
Lead early-stage conversations and manage the transition from relationship to active deal.
Deal structuring and execution
Form a clear, independent point of view on deal structure, valuation, and terms - and bring that perspective to the table.
Work closely with the Manager, M&A and external advisors to move active deals through diligence and toward close.
Own the LOI process and support transaction negotiations through to execution.
Build the function
Help shape Alloy River's M&A process, philosophy, and approach as the function grows.
Work with the broader team to ensure post-close transitions are smooth and that acquired businesses land well.
What We're Looking For
This role requires someone who has originated and closed deals - not just supported them. A background in corporate development, private equity, or investment banking is a strong foundation, but what matters most is a track record of getting transactions done.
8-10 years of experience in M&A, corporate development, private equity, or investment banking.
Demonstrated track record of sourcing and closing deals - not just executing on deals handed to you.
Strong commercial instincts and the ability to form an independent view on what makes a target attractive and what it is worth.
Experience working with founders and owner-operators - you understand what it means for someone to hand over a business they built.
Confident, credible communicator who can represent Alloy River at a senior level with counterparties and advisors.
Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-moving environment.
Bonus experience includes:
Experience acquiring professional services or accounting firms.
Existing relationships with intermediaries and advisors in the SMB professional services space.
Experience building or scaling a corporate development function from the ground up.
How We Work
You will report directly to the CEO and operate with significant autonomy - this is not a role where deals get handed to you.
The team is small and senior. You will work alongside people who move fast, have strong opinions, and hold themselves to a high standard.
You will have real influence over how the M&A function takes shape - the process, the thesis, the approach. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build something.
Why Join Alloy River
Help create a category-defining product with a real impact on business owners.
Work in-person with people who are excellent at what they do and fun to be around.
Join early and shape the future of an industry.
What We Look For
We hire high agency, AI-forward builders. The title or background matters less than the pattern underneath it.
High agency. You don't wait to be pointed. You identify the problem, form a view, and act.
AI-forward. You've changed how you work because of AI - not as a novelty, but because of how it lets you build. Your first instinct is to reach for the agent, not the keyboard.
Strong opinions. You have a perspective and you share it - in writing, in meetings, in Slack. You think out loud and you’re not afraid to change your mind in public.
Ownership. You feel responsible for outcomes, not just doing your part. You've built something that didn't exist before you arrived, and you didn't let go until it was right.
Curiosity. You go deep without being asked. You ask the questions others skip. You tinker.
Optimistic. You believe that things can improve, problems can be solved, and people are generally trying their best. This is the foundation of how you work and how you treat people.
Compensation & Location
This role pays $200,000–$250,000 CAD base, plus a variable component, with an OTE of $250,000–$350,000 CAD, plus equity. This role is based in Toronto (in-person) or remote in Chicago or New York.
On Working In-Person
The full team is in the office every day, because we believe the best work happens when smart people are in the same room. You get faster decisions, tighter feedback loops, direct access to everyone on the team, and a level of trust that's hard to build over Zoom. If you thrive in that environment, you'll love it here.
