Kikoff: The Fintech Powering Financial Security at Scale
Kikoff is a profitable, pre-IPO fintech company on a mission to empower everyone to achieve financial security. With record revenue growth in 2025 and a unicorn valuation, we've built a suite of products that help millions of people build credit, access liquidity, and save money.
We're scaling fast. Join us if you want to build something meaningful and help millions of people move forward financially.
Why Kikoff:
This is a consumer fintech startup, and you will be working with serial entrepreneurs who have built strong consumer brands and innovative products. We value extreme ownership, clear communication, a strong sense of craftsmanship, and the desire to create lasting work and work relationships. Yes, you can build an exciting business AND have real-life real-customer impact.
About the Role
Kikoff is preparing to become a public company, and the accounting foundation for that is still being built. That's this job. You'll own everything outside of revenue, from the vendor invoice to the cap table. You'll lead a growing team, turn a manual, multi-entity close into one that's fast, predictable, and audit-ready, and help build the SEC reporting process we'll need as a public company.
Most accounting managers have to pick a track. They either run the close or work on technical accounting and SEC reporting. Here you get both. You'll own the day-to-day operations, and you'll also work directly with the US Controller and our Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting on share-based compensation, EPS, segment reporting, and our first SEC filings. If you're a strong operator who wants technical depth and public-company experience, this role is built for you.
You'll have real authority to change how things work. You'll report to the US Controller who expects you to make the calls, and you'll join a team that uses AI in how it does the work every day, not as a side project.
If you were the person who fixed the close at your last company and you'd like to build it right from the start this time, we'd like to talk.
What You'll Tackle
- Make the close predictable. Take a manual, reactive close across multiple entities, including intercompany, and make it fast and repeatable.
- Get us public-company ready. Build the systems, close automation, controls, and SEC reporting processes a company needs before an IPO.
- Own the full picture. AP, payroll, leases, fixed assets, and equity accounting all roll up to you.
What You'll Own
- The close: Monthly, quarterly, and annual close, consolidation, and financial statements across multiple entities, including intercompany.
- Month-end close decks: Prepare the monthly close deck for the Finance leadership, covering results, key fluxes, and what's driving them.
- Non-revenue accounting: Operating expenses, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, and payroll.
- Equity accounting: Share-based compensation expense (ASC 718), equity activity, and earnings per share (ASC 260), including EPS calculations and disclosures.
- SEC reporting: Partner with our Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting on the financial statements, and footnotes. Learn SEC reporting from the inside while bringing the operational rigor that makes the filings accurate.
- Segment reporting: Help build our segment reporting under ASC 280, including the new significant segment expense disclosures.
- AP and AR: AP oversight, plus lighter-touch oversight of AR, through the AP/AR Specialist.
- Analysis: Detailed flux and variance analysis. You'll dig into anything unexpected and make sure the teams that drive the numbers understand them.
- Audit: Lead the end-to-end external audit for non-revenue areas.
- Technical accounting: Work through complex accounting questions alongside the US Controller, from first analysis through the final memo.
- Systems and controls: Find what's slowing the close or creating risk, and fix it.
- Your team: Lead and develop a Senior Accountant and an AP/AR Specialist.
How You'll Grow
- Get public-company experience firsthand. Help prepare the financial statements and disclosures for an IPO, which few accountants get to do before they're at a public company.
- Build technical depth. Work through complex questions with the US Controller and write the memos that support our positions.
- Learn SEC reporting from the inside. Partner with our Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting on filings, footnotes, and segment disclosures.
- Build a team. Grow from managing two people to leading a larger function as Kikoff scales.
What Success Looks Like After One Year
- The close finishes in 5 business days, every month, with no surprises.
- Leadership gets a monthly close deck that clearly explains results and drivers.
- Your areas, including equity, EPS, and segment data, are ready to include in SEC filings.
- The audit for your areas is clean and organized, with schedules ready before auditors ask.
- Budget owners understand their operating expenses and what drives them.
- Manual close work is replaced by automation, including AI-assisted workflows.
- Your team is stronger, faster, and ready for more scope.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You
- Have 6+ years of accounting experience, including owning the close and GL in a multi-entity environment with intercompany.
- Know US GAAP well enough to make accrual, cutoff, and capitalization calls yourself and explain them clearly to auditors.
- Have hands-on experience with share-based compensation and EPS.
- Have taken accounting areas through an external audit and keep workpapers audit-ready all year.
- Have managed or mentored accountants and enjoy helping them grow.
- Have found a broken process and rebuilt it without slowing down the close.
- Communicate clearly. You can build a close deck leadership understands, walk a non-finance partner through a variance, and push back on a business owner with data.
- Use AI tools as a real part of how you work, and know what needs to be verified before it touches the books.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
You don't need to have done SEC reporting or complex technical accounting before. We're looking for a strong operator who's curious about that work, and we'll help you build it.
Bonus Points
- CPA and/or public accounting background
- SEC reporting experience (10-K, 10-Q, or S-1), including segment reporting
- Public company experience, including SOX
- Hands-on ERP implementation, migration, or upgrade experience
- Experience with our stack: NetSuite, Ramp, Brex, Snowflake, Claude, and Codex
We always make room for exceptional people. If you don't match this list exactly, tell us where you'd fit.
