About the Role

The Treasurer will lead the treasury function at KOHO and report directly to the CFO. The Treasurer will play a strategic role in designing and establishing treasury processes from the ground up as KOHO gains approvals for its Schedule 1 Bank license.This role requires expertise in building scalable treasury operations commensurate within a high growth fintech company. The Treasurer will be responsible for establishing and operationalizing comprehensive treasury frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing liquidity, funding, and capital strategies for the new banking entity. This is an opportunity to design a better banking experience for Canadians.

Key Responsibilities

Treasury Operational Readiness & Management

  • Design and establish treasury processes, policies, and procedures for KOHO's banking operations from inception.

  • Design liquidity, Asset-Liability Management (ALM) and interest rate risk frameworks that are compliant with Basel III and OSFI guidelines. Once licensed, manage daily liquidity and cash positioning to ensure adequate funding for operations and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop appropriate models for treasury planning, forecasting, and stress testing scenarios.

  • Oversee funding strategies, including deposit management, wholesale funding, and capital markets activities including the direct oversight over the GIC deposit broker business.

  • Manage the bank's investment portfolio in accordance with regulatory requirements and risk appetite.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure readiness for enhanced regulatory oversight and reporting requirements.

  • Once operational, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements as well as internal guidelines related to treasury operations

  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies on treasury-related compliance matters as required.

  • Develop and maintain treasury risk management controls and testing protocols.

Strategic & Advisory Functions

  • Advise ALCO and senior management on liquidity, funding, and capital optimization strategies.

  • Build scalable treasury processes and systems to support the bank's growth trajectory.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Build and develop the treasury team at KOHO as the function scales.

  • Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to team members.

  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives across the treasury function.

  • Foster a culture of grit, curiosity, precision and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CFA designation required; both designations considered an asset.

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant treasury experience in banking or financial services sector.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a treasury leadership role at a Canadian financial institution.

  • Experience and knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements to various governing bodies including OSFI and CDIC

  • Experience establishing or scaling treasury operations is highly desirable.

  • Deep understanding of Canadian banking regulations, OSFI guidelines, and Basel III framework.

  • Experience with treasury management systems and financial modeling tools.
