What We're Doing
At Synctera, we’re powering the future of FinTech. We help companies create new revenue streams and enhance their value proposition with FinTech apps and embedded banking products. With APIs, compliance support, and bank partners in one end-to-end Banking as a Service platform, Synctera is the fastest and easiest way to build, launch, and scale bank accounts, debit cards, charge cards, lending, and more. We help banks increase deposits and non-interest income by expanding their footprint through FinTech and embedded finance partnerships. The Synctera Platform enables banks to manage their program through a fully compliant, scalable solution.
We are looking for interesting, curious, wickedly smart people who are ready to jump in and run with our fast-growing team. If you want to have fun at work, collaborate with some of the sharpest people in the industry, grow the FinTech and Banking as a Service ecosystem, and love to win, read on!
How We Build
At Synctera, engineers play a hands-on role in building and evolving our core platform. With smaller teams and fewer layers, engineers have real ownership over their work, move quickly from idea to execution, and contribute directly to technical decisions that matter.
You’ll work on systems that must be reliable, secure, and scalable, while helping shape how the platform continues to grow and mature. It’s an environment designed for engineers who enjoy meaningful impact, autonomy, and solving complex problems in a regulated, real-world context.
Our Stack
Our platform is built in Go (for backend services) and React with Typescript (for the Synctera Console, our frontend). We’re built on top of Google Cloud Platform and typically use Postgres (Cloud SQL), Redis (Cloud Memorystore), and Pub/Sub as our core application stack, with OpenAPI specifications being used to both document our API and be the foundation for inter-service communication.
Our infrastructure is predominantly Kubernetes (Google Kubernetes Engine), with Terraform orchestrating infrastructure, and tools like Argo facilitating deployments.
What We’re Looking For
The Risk and Compliance Engineering team is a cornerstone of Synctera’s platform, safeguarding our network of fintechs, banks, and end customers. Our mission is to build scalable, high-impact risk and compliance systems that enable financial innovation to grow safely–from initial onboarding through ongoing oversight and regulatory reporting. Our work spans three core areas: prevention, where we establish trust from day one through due diligence processes such as Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), and account verification; detection, where we leverage real-time transaction monitoring to identify fraud and anti-money laundering (AML) risks; and compliance, where we support case management and regulatory reporting, including suspicious activity reports (SAR) and currency transaction reports (CTR).
The role is highly autonomous, and the engineer will significantly influence the development of payment solutions for various use cases. This involves collaborating extensively with internal and external stakeholders, including Risk & Compliance (to ensure adherence to regulations), Operations (to streamline financial processes), and external partners like vendors, FinTechs, and Banks (to integrate and meet mutual business requirements).
What You'll Do
Build and maintain scalable, reliable backend services in Go (Golang)
Ensure high availability and fault tolerance of critical financial services
Build integrations with third-party vendors
Find cleaner, simpler ways to solve technical problems and improve existing systems
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems
Partner with Product, Engineering, and operational teams to understand complex financial services challenges and design solutions
Identify and implement process improvements and development best practices that raise the bar for quality and efficiency
Advocate for and mentor software engineers in development best practices, fostering skill and knowledge-sharing across the team
What You'll Bring
5+ years of professional experience working as a Software Engineer
Experience with Go or a comparable structured and opinionated language
Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
Experience with at least one major cloud provider, preferably Google Cloud
Experience in using and creating RESTful APIs
-
Nice to have:
Experience being a part of early-stage, fast-moving engineering teams
Experience working in FinTech, embedded finance, or payment systems
